Scenario

Senior Account Executive Beth Medlen is responsible for servicing James Hardie’s Trim Plant in Peru, IL. The plant has encountered continual bearing failure in one of their sander applications. After inspecting the bearings and assessing the damage, the problem identified was due to improper lubrication. Knowing the sander bearings were in a high contamination area and starving of grease, Beth knew she could provide a solution. 

Solution

With the help of Perma USA and their Perma Star Vario Autoluber, Beth was able to remotely mount a series of four 250cc auto greasers to the system. With the auto lubricator, the right grease for the application, and correct mounting systems they were able to adequately provide grease to the multiple bearings.

Impact

Taking into account the overall operational efficiency, Beth was able to save James Hardie $44,176 over the course of 22 months. Operational efficiency is calculated by determining the Performance x Quality x Availability of a piece of machinery. The sander application was losing multiple bearings over the course of a year leading to increased labor and replacement part costs.
